Apply quantum computing to real problems with Black Opal instructor-led training

Quantum computing is shifting from research to real-world impact. For organizations, the next challenge is building the capability to apply it to commercially relevant problems.
Introducing instructor-led training
Black Opal’s new instructor-led course helps teams move beyond fundamentals to real-world application. Guided by experts from Q-CTRL and training partner qBraid, you’ll step through worked examples of the types of applications delivering commercial value today, develop and run solutions on real hardware, learn how to understand the results, and recognize how to map your business challenges to emerging quantum technology.
Both qBraid and Q-CTRL share a unified mission: to empower visionary innovators with quantum computing as a transformative tool for creating advanced algorithms and pioneering applications. Together, our latest program provides a personalized and comprehensive pathway to harnessing quantum computing and applying it effectively. Ricky Young, Chief Operating Officer, qBraid
Who it’s for
This course is designed for teams with foundational knowledge who are ready to solve real problems using quantum computing.
The course’s focus on understanding how to map business problems to quantum capabilities makes it perfect for domain experts exploring practical applications, business leaders preparing for impact, and developers expanding their quantum skills.
Participants will leverage best-in-class tools as part of the training, including:
- Black Opal’s beginner-level interactive modules ensure anyone can learn the required fundamentals of near-term quantum applications ahead of time.
 - The use of Fire Opal’s solvers enables a low-code approach to executing quantum algorithms suitable for all levels of technical ability.
 - The qBraid Lab platform makes exploring algorithms and connecting to quantum hardware simple and seamless.

What you’ll learn
Across a half-day workshop, participants will learn how to apply quantum computing to real-world challenges through hands-on instruction and live deployments:
- Be introduced to the tangible impact of adopting quantum computing for practical applications across sectors and domains, including scheduling and routing problems, facility location optimization, portfolio optimization, protein folding, and more.
 - Learn more about the criteria for identifying suitable quantum computing use cases, and the high-level workflow from problem to solution.
 - Understand how to translate an industry-relevant problem into an optimization challenge that’s solvable on quantum hardware. Using real-world inputs and data, you’ll translate scenarios into a quantum-ready function and deploy it using our Fire Opal optimization solver and a simulated quantum computer.
 - Interpret solver results from the simulation for an optimization problem, evaluating quantum computing performance, and understanding the impact of error on results.
 - Run the optimization using data from an industry-relevant use case on real quantum hardware using Fire Opal and qBraid Lab. Interpret the results and compare the results with the simulation and best-in-class classical solvers.
 - Learn about techniques to forecast quantum advantage, and how a common workflow can be applied for realizing quantum utility across a range of sectors, including those relevant to your domain.

How it’s delivered
This hybrid course combines self-paced learning in Black Opal with a half-day live workshop led by Q-CTRL and qBraid instructors. Participants will complete work through interactive lectures, collaborate on notebooks in a workshop-style environment, and execute code using real datasets with assisted deployment to quantum hardware.
Q-CTRL’s Fire Opal product enables quantum algorithms to be run with a single command, minimal configuration, and enables course participants to get meaningful results for high-value use cases on real quantum computers. Fire Opal enables participants to skip the specialist coding requirements of other courses and get straight to solving problems, fast.
qBraid Lab provides a simple yet powerful pre-configured environment to work with the algorithms in the course, as well as seamless access to the necessary quantum computing cloud hardware to run and monitor your jobs.
