Black Opal is world-renowned for being the most engaging, interactive way to learn quantum computing. At the heart of this are our hands-on activities - bite-sized exercises that enable learners to progress in just a few minutes each day.

We’re excited to take Black Opal’s hands-on learning a step further with a new, more open-ended mode of learning: Projects, which puts knowledge into practice on real-world problems. Easily found within the sidebar in the “Learn” section of Black Opal, Projects are available to all Enterprise and Education customers.

Projects is already part of the syllabus rolled out by the Tamil Nadu Skills Development Corporation in India, the first state in the world to roll out quantum computing education to all technical degree programs, a program that will reach hundreds of thousands of students over the coming year.

Meet the demands of a quantum education program

Projects are an open-ended series of tasks that draw from everything learned across more than 450+ activities in Black Opal, and the perfect capstone challenge to meet the requirements of an enterprise learning program or educational curriculum.

Projects provide room to explore, feature multiple solutions, and enable learners to demonstrate that they are able to find solutions to real-world quantum computing problems and readiness to apply skills in the field.

Expose learners to real-world challenges

The first project we’ve launched requires learners to overcome the challenges of today’s noisy quantum computers.

It requires learners to work through three increasingly complex tasks and adapt the given circuits to achieve the highest chance of successful execution. The project brings into practical focus the skills necessary for anyone looking to enter today’s quantum workforce.

Grade and administer projects automatically

You don’t need to be a quantum computing expert to administer the project to your learners. Projects are automatically graded against an assessment rubric which assigns marks for the wide array of possible answers, allocating additional marks for the most effective solutions.

Results for submitted assignments are instantly available to course administrators in an analytics report. The assessment rubric itself is available for review, providing full transparency on the marking process and enabling teachers to provide individualized feedback.
